ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Welcome to my website! My name is Mason Monteith is a writer, freelancer, part-time poet, and editor for Candlelit Chronicles in both poetry and prose. Based in Springfield, MO. I’ve written two novels, two short stories, and several poems–though my work is typically fantasy, I am moving towards literary fiction with magical realism and gothic themes.
HOW IT BEGAN
Since the age of nine, all I ever planned to do was write. From a tiny library in Pennsylvania, I was inspired to write stories, at first about my dogs, but eventually spreading into fantasy. For years and years my primary project was called The Magic Chronicles; and while the plot for that story constantly changed it remained my one project until 2020.
Around this time I began freelance work helping other writers with their projects through beta reading, line editing, and developmental edits, all the while making many writer friends in the bookish community. With newfound inspiration from the community of lovely authors, I finally began my next projects: The Spellbound Abbey and The Final Born.
Since completing my degree in the spring of 2025, she has moved away from strictly YA Fantasy and into literary fiction and poetry. Also beginning my journey as an editor with Candlelit Chronicles, a small literary magazine for all things dark academia.
THE PATH AHEAD
As I continue towards my Master’s in English to one day teach, I plan to do what I’ve always done: see where the creativity takes me. Taking my writing direction to a more literary fiction path, I plan to rework old and new projects. Whatever I come up with, you can be sure it will always contain magic one way or another.
