Golden Trio Book Recommendations: What The Final Born Protagonists Would Read

It’s always fun to consider how you can relate to others. What common interests are there? What do they read compared to what I read? What are their favorite books? In my upcoming novel The Final Born, the main three have many similarities, but wildly different taste in books! Do you have similar taste to the main three of The Final Born?

Calypso Pallas

First off, Calypso. Cal is the last princess of Vasyla. Being born under the star of the white tern she is believed to be cursed and many of her own people despise her for it. Calypso wishes to clear her name and fight for her people as a warrior – but this plan may not be the right course of action for her. Cal is headstrong, she doesn’t like working with others, and is a little touchy at times – but she is incredibly loyal and will stop at nothing to protect others.

Calypso would enjoy heroic tales or stories where the protagonist goes against their fate. Two of her favorite include Dune by Frank Herbert and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. She would definitely read Dune believing Paul is a hero no matter what he does to achieve his goals – and loves LOTR for it’s reluctant protagonist in Frodo. Cal would read more old books than anything.

Ophelya Nephus

Next we have the secondary heiress, Ophelya Nephus. Ophelya never wanted to be in line to inherit the family’s position on the emperor’s court – but after her sister’s death she was pushed to study in a position she never expected to be in. Ophelya is cunning and observant, she can easily play aloof and fool people into underestimating her. That being said Ophelya is a realist, but leans to be more pessimistic when viewing those she doesn’t know very well.

Ophelya would prefer books with strong female protagonists that she could learn from. Books like Renee Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn or The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang would be her favorites.

Leandre Elias

Finally we have Leandre Elias. Leandre is Calypso’s royal guard, though he has no memories of how he came to this position or where he even came from. Leandre is the most arrogant and headstrong of the three – jumping into situations without fully thinking them through most of the time. Though Leandre is also the most loyal of the trio, and is kind to those who are kind to him.

Leandre would prefer middle grade or YA books. His favorite being The Novice by Taran Matharu or Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. He doesn’t read often though, since he rarely finds the time to.

So, which character did you end up feeling the most similar to? Based on book taste alone, which of The Final Born’s protagonists would you get along with the most?

The Final Born comes out May 7th 2024, and is currently available for preorder through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Hardcover, paperback, and ebook editions are all available.
